Hate Read Turned into Surprised

I picked up this title a few months ago due to BookTok and it sat on my shelf, looking pretty. (Like most of my books do lately). But then one day I decided to stop reading just on my kindle but to finally start going through some of these books that I bought on my many trips to different book stores.

The Assistant to the Villian by Hannah Nicole Maehrer was the first book I picked up from my stack.

At first I did not like this book. The writing for me was kind of all over the place, the plot was there but not as pronounced as I would have liked it to be. The main characters were just one dimensional. Evie was your typical heroin that loves everyone and is just so good and sweet. Then you have The Villain that is grumpy and fights his attraction the whole time to Evie.

Just meh kind of plot line. The bright points were Kingsley, Becky, and Blade. They were comedy, snarky, and everything I wished the main characters were.

But I was determined to read a physical books. So I took this as a challenge to finish it. Basically 'Hate Read' it.

But once I started getting towards the end I wanted to find out what the mystery was, how they were going to get out of the sicky situation, and who was the one behind all the shenanigans.

So I finished it within a day.....

Then it left on a cliff hanger so I HAD to get the second one.

I went to three different book stores to find this freaking book. Because apparently I'm not the only one that needed to read it. Rude.

The second book...I couldn't put it down. It was so much better than the second one. And it was multiple character points of view, which I really loved being able to see things from Becky's perspective. She has to be one of my favorite characters because she obviously has so many secrets going on and that is why she loves control and order.

Then there is Kingsley, the frog. I want to know more about this adorable creature that is always holding up signs that we are all thinking....

This book had more character building moments that you were able to actually understand the characters better and get to know them way better. The over all plot and mystery in this book was also 100% better than the first one.

Like I said, I hate read the first one because I was determined to finish it. But I ended up liking it at the very end. Then the second one kept going with how the writing of the first one ended.

This series is a light-hearted read. It is easy, and fun. If you want to get away from some of the heavier reads, pick this one up.

However, be aware that the third book is not coming out until September 25, 2025!!!

So now I have to wait to see what the big reveal is. I hate that!

But up next is Long Live Evil. Which should be really good.
